2009 and Looking Ahead To 2010

Filed Under (Year In Review) by on 12-22-2009

Well it’s that time of year again, a time where I sit back and reflect at the past 12 months and look ahead to the coming year. This year much like last year was quite rocky, but ultimately a lot of good things did come out of 2009 and I hope open the door to new opportunities in 2010 and the decade to come.

Normally I would do a post looking at some of the highlights of my personal life and some of my achievements, but the fact of the matter is that 2009 has just been too damn trying to even really worry about the good or the bad.  At this point I am happy just to make it through the week.

This year I opted to focus solely on Musings For A Darkened Room since there are some changes in store for 2010.

This year was huge for Musings.  It saw some of its highest traffic numbers ever and its top 5 posts saw over 11,000 unique visitors combined.  Probably not a lot by most of bloggers standards, but for me it was definitely something to be proud of.

Coming in at the top of the list was my Twilight Soundtrack Revisited: What Plays When? post, which outlines when each of the songs from the Twilight soundtrack and score play during the film.

A close second was the infamous Blinded By Penis post where I argue whether or not Robert Pattinson is as attractive as himself versus when he plays Edward Cullen in the Twilight films.  Unfortunately this post also put my site on the map for a long list of keywords related to Robert Pattinson’s genitalia.  It’s scary how many people out there search for that kind of thing.

In third comes the post that started it all, my Twilight Soundtrack Review.  An extensive look at the Twilight Soundtrack and its music and a post that drove a large chunk of my blogs traffic until the introduction of the What Plays When? post.

The last 2 posts t round out the top 5 of the year are my mention of PlasticSurgery.com’s Miss Double D-cember coverage from 2008 and my informative post looking at the AIM Coho social experiment.  The funny thing about the Miss Double D-cember post is that it got the bulk of its traffic this past month for this year’s Double D-cember competition.

Looking Ahead

There is a long road ahead in 2010.  Tonight I sat down and put together a list of goals for the year to come, one of which pertains specifically to Musings For A Darkened Room.  As regular readers know this blog runs on a potpourri of topics that interest me, ranging from music and Twilight to search and social marketing.

Starting January 4th, Musings For A Darkened Room will start a new posting schedule that will focus on having set subjects on set days. 2010 will launch Music Mondays, Twilight Tuesdays, and Flashback Fridays.  There will be room for additional posts on these days if something post-worthy comes up, but the primary focus of these days will be on the subject at hand.

Monday and Tuesday are pretty obvious, but Friday is going to focus more on what happened over the last week and I will share some of the more interesting link finds from the various topics I cover on Musings.

Some feel I should just branch off and do separate niche blogs for each of the subjects, but the fact of the matter is I created Musings For A Darkened room to be an extension of me, it is written for folks out there who share some of the same mixed interests as I.  I understand that not everyone will care about each and every post I write, but I hope that as a reader they can appreciate that I am simply sharing who I am.

The coming year will be a journey and I look forward to sharing it with all of you through Musings For A Darkened Room.  I hope that all of my readers, family members, and friends have a wonderful holiday and a safe and happy new year.  I look forward to seeing all of you again when I return on January 4th.
