Blink-182, the pop punk trio which announced an indefinite hiatus back in early 2005, confirmed this evening during the 51st Annual Grammy awards and on their new website that they are officially reuniting for 2009. The band states on their website,
“Hi. we’re blink-182. This past week there’ve been a lot of questions about the current status of the band, and we wanted you to hear it straight from us. To put it simply, We’re back. We mean, really back. Picking up where we left off and then some. In the studio writing and recording a new album. Preparing to tour the world yet again. Friendships reformed. 17 years deep in our legacy.
Thanks and get ready…”
The band echoed the sentiments on their new Twitter account, YouTube channel, Myspace and a number of other social sites. The band officially started talking again in November of last year following the tragic plane crash which seriously injured the bands drummer, Travis Barker.
As I mentioned last weekend after seeing Travis Barker at Disney’s California Adventure, I am a longtime blink-182 fan, so this announcement is very exciting to me. This is the second big reunion announcement of 2009; No Doubt announced near the end of 2008 that they would be reuniting after a five year hiatus to tour this summer with the band Paramore.
